Obituary of Katherine E. Kupchin
Katherine E. (Vreeland) Kupchin, age 84, of Troy, PA, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Born on April 27, 1930 in Canton, PA, Katherine was the daughter of Robert and Emma (Field) Vreeland. Katherine was a graduate of Troy High School, Kings County Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY, and attended the New York University, Adelphia University, the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and Messiah College. She was also certified as a Parish Nurse.
Prior to her retirement, Katherine served as a Captain in United States Air Force Reserve Nurse Corp. She held several memberships including the Daughters of the American Revolution, including the Bradford Chapter where she served as past Regent and treasurer, the Pennsylvania State Society with whom she held the office of Northeast District Director and organizing secretary as well as many chairmanships, and the Marlboro, Maryland Chapter 61 of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a past Matron. Katherine volunteered with the American Red Cross blood bank for over 25 years. She also enjoyed mission work and the Red Hat Queens of Heart, working with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America where she served as a den leader, cub scout day camp nurse, Camp Brule nurse, a merit badge counselor and a scoutmaster training participant.
Katherine is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Wendy Kupchin of Armenia Mt., PA, Lt. Col. William J. and Lorraine Kupchin of Eagle River, Alaska; five grandchildren, Skyler, Jacquelyn, Emma, Benny and Maria; three nieces, Denise Maletta, Suzanne Maher, Michelle Fattarusso; one nephew, Thomas M. Fattarusso; Special families, Sandra Gallo, Nils and Maureen Peterson and family, Tim and Cindy Kennedy and Family and James and Abby Werlock.
At Katherine's request, there will be no services. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main Street, Mansfield, PA, is assisting the family. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
