Obituary of Richard D. Smith
Richard D. Smith, age 75, of Tioga, PA, died on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Born on August 21, 1938 in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of Elwin and Claudia (Browning) Smith. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Virgie (Cummings) Smith on November 21, 2013. Prior to his retirement, Richard was employed as a Road Master for Tioga Township. He was also a farmer for many years and heavy equipment operator. Richard enjoyed attending auctions, casinos and hunting.
Richard is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward and Lillian Smith of Wellsboro, PA, Carl Smith of Lock Haven, PA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Wood of Elkhart, IN, Julia and Donnie Hurlburt of Lawrenceville, PA; one step-son, Jamie (Lyn Lamoreaux) Cummings of Drums, PA; one brother and sister-in-law, Elwin and Sandy Smith of Osceola, PA; one sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Dick Petticrew of Florida; 14 grandchildren: Sam, Angela, Nathan, Alicia, Chris, Heather, Matt, Faith, Michelle, Marika, Hayley, Katelyn, MaKayla, Magen, and several great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was also predeceased by a son, Howard Smith and a sister, Betty Ann Gee.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 5, 2014 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main Street, Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately following calling hours at 8:00 PM at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard?s memory to CORE, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com
