Obituary of Frances K. Griffin
Frances K. Griffin, 105, a resident of Broad Acres Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility in Wellsboro, PA, died on Sunday, November 4, 2007.
Born on October 11, 1902 in Holiday, PA, Frances was the daughter of Edward and Ida Kinnan. She was predeceased by her husband Horace Hod M. Griffin in 1990 and her brother Ivan Kinnan in1967.
Frances received her teaching degree from Mansfield State Normal School in1923 and attended Missionary School in Alabama. She taught in Antrim, PA, and Monroe and Long Island, NY. Hod and Fran moved to Tioga to live in the family home following his return from England during World War II until they moved to Corning nearer Hods work at the Ingersoll-Rand. Frances volunteered at the Corning Hospital and the Corning Chapter of the American Cancer Society. After retirement, the Griffins spent their winters in Clearwater, FL, and their summers at the Thousand Islands. Following Hods death in 1990, Frances became a resident of Forestview Manor in Elkland before moving to Country Terrace in 2003 and subsequently to Broad Acres Facility in April 2007. The Griffins were Sunday School teachers at St. Andrews Church in Tioga and later became communicants at Christ Episcopal Church in Corning. Frances was a member of the Eastern Star in Tioga.
Survivors include her nephew, Richard and Barbara Kinnan of Middlebury Center, PA, and Apache Junction, AZ; close friends and caregivers, Fred and Judy LaVancher of Tioga; four great nieces and a great nephew; five great-great nieces and seven great-great nephews; several cousins and many friends.
A memorial service celebrating the lives of Horace M. and Frances K. Griffin will be held at St. Andrews Church in Tioga at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007. A private committal service for Frances will be at the Middlebury-Union Cemetery in Keeneyville, PA.
During Frans time at Country Terrace and Broad Acres, she was exceedingly thankful for the care given to her by the caregivers and staff at these facilities.
In lieu of flowers, it is Frans wish that memorial contributions be made to St. Andrews Church, PO Box 386, Tioga, PA 16946.
