Obituary of Robin D. Pinkney

Robin Douglas Pinkney Robin Douglas Pinkney, 69, of Mansfield, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, following complications of a kidney transplant. Robin was born July 8, 1944, in Willoughby, Ohio, son of the late Frank Robert and Felice (Chase) Pinkney. He graduated from Willoughby South High School in 1962 and from Grove City College in 1967. Robin received his master's degree in economics from Akron University in 1975. In 1977 he also earned a degree from Baptist Bible Institute of Cleveland, Ohio. Robin married Janice (Brown) Pinkney June 26, 1971, to whom he was happily married for 42 years. Robin is survived by his wife; two sons, Drew David Pinkney and his wife, Rhea, of York, and Brian Kenneth Pinkney, of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Elizabeth (Pinkney) Moore and her husband, Daniel, of Pensacola, Fla.; and two brothers, Bruce Reed Pinkney and his wife, Sherri, of Atlanta, Ga., and Scott Norman Pinkney and his wife, Olga, of Elyria, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brother, Neal Loring Pinkney of Willoughby, OH, who is survived by his wife, Beth. Robin was employed at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, for 17 years and became an Assistant Director of the Data Processing Department. While in Ohio, he was active in Northfield Baptist Church, singing in the choir, teaching, and serving as Chairman of the Deacon Board. In 1989 he moved to Mansfield and served in various capacities in the Institutional Research office at Mansfield University, including Director of Institutional Research. He retired from Mansfield University in November 2012. As a devout Christian, Robin's love for the Lord and faith in Jesus Christ was evident for all to see. His meek and gentle character was an example to his family and community. He was active in Covington Baptist Church, singing in the choir, teaching adult bible classes, and serving on various committees. Robin was a beloved husband and father whose greatest joy was to guide his children to Christian maturity. Robin loved to travel and visit his large extended family which created many fond memories during family vacations. Robin was active in his community, serving as an assistant scoutmaster to Boy Scout Troop No. 21, and encouraging his son to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved music and sang with the Mansfield Men?s Chorus for almost twenty years, serving as their treasurer for a time. Robin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed his four acre farm, working in the garden and outdoor fish pond, and raising chickens and turkeys. In his earlier years, he was an active sportsman, enjoying skiing, hiking, camping, canoeing, spelunking, softball, and flag football. Robin was a kind and gentle man who will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Covington Baptist Church, 2121 N. Williamson Road, Covington, PA 16917. Funeral services will follow at noon at the church with Pastor Ted Rood officiating. Burial will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.
