Obituary of William G. Farrell
William G. "Bill" Farrell, age 82, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home. Born on September 24, 1931 in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of Alfred "Hap" and Gertrude (Powell) Farrell. Bill is survived by his wife, Elaine (Knaus) Farrell. Having completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1957 at Mansfield University, Bill began his career as a teacher. He later served as Tioga County PA's Chief Probation Officer and District Court Judge retiring in 1999. Bill served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict and the National Guard. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Friendship Lodge #247 of Mansfield, PA, the Tyoga County Country Club, Arnot Sportsman's Club, Mansfield VFW, the Wellsboro American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church of Wellsboro, PA. Bill was an avid golfer and hunter.
In addition to his wife, Elaine, Bill is survived by three step sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris and Christine Maynard of Cranberry Twp., PA; Jeffrey Maynard of Palmyra, VA; Jack Maynard of Palmyra, VA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sharon Farrell of Hornell, NY, Wayne Farrell of Fl; a sister-in-law, Susan Farrell of Mansfield, PA, two nephews, Jeff (Kelly) Farrell of Mansfield, PA, Kevin (Christine) Farrell of Strongsville, OH; two nieces, Jennifer Lehman of Mansfield, PA; Beth (Brian) Loveless of Avon, CT; ten step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Bonalyn (Taynton) Farrell on October 1, 2008 and his brother, Dr. Ronald Farrell on January 19, 2002.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, West Ave., Wellsboro, PA with Rev. Peter A. DeVantier officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to Trinity Lutheran Church, West Ave., Wellsboro, PA 16901. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Mansfield, PA.
